Improv Piecing: A Guided Play Workshop
Saturday, June 6, 1-6pm
Have you ever tried sewing without a pattern? Come spend the afternoon working quickly and intuitively, experimenting with improvisational piecing, playing with color and discovering unexpected shapes as they emerge. We will begin with some basic technique demonstrations, but the majority of the afternoon will be your time for open exploration and play. Your challenge: create a 30” square quilt top by the end of the day! Option to add lunch or bring your own. You will receive an email closer to the date with more lunch info!
You’ll practice:
Simple techniques for ruler-free improvisational piecing
Flowing with colors and shapes that draw you
Trusting your instincts
All materials included; you will have access to a rainbow of solid-colored fabric scraps, but if there are particular colors or prints you want to work with, you are welcome to bring those along as well!
Beginner-friendly, all skill levels welcome. Participants should be familiar with how to use a sewing machine.
Julia is offering a 50% scholarship spot for each of her workshops for people who self-identify as needing financial assistance, for any reason. The scholarship spot is first-come, first served. To claim the scholarship price, use the code JULIASCHOLARSHIP-BQS at checkout.
Julia Triman is a quilter and quilting teacher fascinated with the creative process and the philosophy of creativity. She shares her quilts and creativity stories at quiltingjulia.com.
