Mini Story Quilt Top

$75.00

Friday, December 5 | 6-9 p.m.

We all have stories swirling in our heads, but don’t always take the time to slow down and clarify the ones that are most important for us to share. Join us for a hands-on workshop that will guide you step-by-step from a “blank canvas” to a colorful story you want to tell in a small hand-stitched textile study. The workshop includes a writing exercise and a work session with technique-based prompts including hand appliqué, embroidery, and mark-making to help you compose your story in fabric and thread. You will have the opportunity to share your story and quilt top at the end of the session.

We will cover:

  • Brief background about the art of narrative quiltmaking

  • Hand applique, both raw-edged and turned

  • Basic embroidery techniques to add details and embellishment

  • Mark-making options to add your personal touch to your quilt top

All materials are included. Light colored muslin fabric will be provided for your background; if there is a different color or style of fabric you would like to use, please bring a cut approximately 16”x 20” in size. We will be writing during the workshop; sketchbooks, pens and pencils will be provided but if you are more comfortable writing on a device like a laptop or tablet, those are welcome too! Techniques demonstrated during the workshop will all be handwork, but you may choose to use a sewing machine as well.

Feel free to bring your own machine or use one of the studio machines! Beginner-friendly, all skill levels welcome. Ages 16+
