Are you curious about quilting, but not sure where to start? Join us and make a baby-sized quilt from start to finish! This four-week course is packed with tips and tricks to get you started cutting fabric, piecing your blocks, hand quilting, and binding. The small class size will offer hands-on help as well as a community of quilters learning along with you!
Our Beginner Quiltmaking Series will cover how to make a quilt of classic nine-patch quilt blocks. You will select your choice of fabrics for the top (front) of the quilt, and machine piece them together in simple square blocks to make a 36”x36” quilt. The class will include four instructional sessions and two additional optional open studio work sessions. If you opt to make the 36” square baby-size quilt, you’ll likely need the studio time; if you choose to make a smaller wall-hanging sized quilt, it’s possible to complete all tasks within the four instructional sessions.
Schedule:
Week 1 Planning + Cutting
Week 2 Piecing
Week 2 Piecing Studio
Week 3 Basting + Hand Quilting
Week 3 Hand Quilting Studio
Week 4 Trimming + Binding
All materials are included. There will be a variety of fabrics available for you to choose from, but if there are specific colors or prints you know you want to include on the front or back of your quilt, you are welcome to bring your own. If you opt to supply your own fabric for all or part of the project, these are the fabric requirements:
Quilt Top (the front of the quilt): Either 6-12 fat quarters OR 1-3 yards
**You can also use fabric scraps to make your quilt, to make a quilt similar to the class sample, you’ll need 325 2.5” squares.
Backing fabric: 1.5 yards
Binding fabric: .75 yard
Beginner-friendly, participants should be familiar with how to use a sewing machine. 16+
