Beginner Quiltmaking Series
6-Week Series:
Mondays, Sept 14-Oct 19 | 6-8:30pm
Are you curious about quilting, but not sure where to start? Join us and make a small quilt from start to finish! This six-week course is packed with tips and tricks to get you started cutting fabric, piecing your blocks, hand quilting, and binding. The small class size will offer hands-on help as well as a community of quilters learning along with you!
Beginner Quiltmaking Series will cover how to make a quilt of classic nine-patch quilt blocks. You will select your choice of fabrics for the top (front) of the quilt, and machine piece them together in simple square blocks to make a 24”x24” quilt. The class will include four instructional sessions and two open studio work sessions. If you opt to make a larger quilt (the max size with the provided materials is 36”x36”), you’ll likely need time outside of class to complete some of the steps.
Schedule:
Week 1 Planning + Cutting
Week 2 Piecing
Week 3 Piecing Studio
Week 4 Basting + Hand Quilting
Week 5 Trimming + Binding
Week 6 Final Studio
All materials are included. There will be a variety of solid-color fabrics available for you to choose from, but if there are specific colors or prints you know you want to include on the front or back of your quilt, you are welcome to bring your own. If you opt to supply your own fabric for all or part of the project, these are the fabric requirements (for a 24” square quilt):
Quilt Top (the front of the quilt): Either 6-8 fat quarters OR 1-2 yards **You can also use fabric scraps to make your quilt; ideally at least 3.5” in size
Backing fabric: 1 yard
Binding fabric: 1/2 yard
Beginner-friendly, participants should be familiar with how to use a sewing machine. Ages 14+
Julia is offering a 50% scholarship spot for each of her workshops for people who self-identify as needing financial assistance, for any reason. The scholarship spot is first-come, first served. To claim the scholarship price, use the code JULIASCHOLARSHIP-BQS at checkout.
