Saturday, September 19 | 1–5 p.m.
So much can be found at the pace of a walk. Take inspiration from a short walk in Downtown Frederick to create a one-of-a-kind mini textile sketch revealing some detail of the city that interests you. We will meet at Twin Bears Bakery for a briefing then walk together for about 20 minutes, sketching and photographing what we observe along the way. Then we will have a sewing session at That’s Sew Hillary’s studio space to translate our inspiration into fabric. Sketching, testing, and experimentation are all part of the process. Participants will have the opportunity to share their inspiration and progress at the end of the workshop.
What we’ll cover:
Things to look for while “reading” the city
Translating inspiration into simple and sewable design
Machine piecing techniques to bring designs to life in fabric
All materials are included, but you’re absolutely welcome to bring your own fabric scraps if there are particular colors or prints you know you want to include in your textile sketch.
Participants should be familiar with how to use a sewing machine. The walk will include several stairs and walking up and down an incline. 18+
